You can also adjust the air flow on the Penn-Plax Smallworld filter kit with the included air valve. The filter cartridge should be replaced every two to four weeks. You may also need to replace your air-stone after some time should you ever notice the airflow becoming sluggish. For safety, always make sure your air pump is above the water level to prevent accidental back-siphoning of water into the pump. This also keeps your tank safe in the event of a loss of power. Additionally, keeping a drip-loop on your air pump’s power cord ensures that your electrical outlet remains dry.
